Though there were speculations that Gulzar had cut short his tour following directions by the Indian High Commission in Pakistan, these could not be confirmed.

Gulzar, who had gone to participate in a music festival, returned without attending it. There were speculations that in wake of the tension in Pakistan following the hanging of Afzal Guru, Gulzar was advised to return.

Gulzar, along with a group, was in Pakistan to attend the literature festival in Karachi. Along with Gulzar, filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj also returned to India.

Immediately after crossing over to India, the group led by Gulzar rushed to the local Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport and took a flight to Delhi.
