Sukhvir Singh of Ghuman Kalan village had fallen from bed while sleeping and suffered an internal head injury.

Nannhi Chhan, an NGO which is run by the MP herself, had organised medical treatment for the child besides transportation and accommodation in New Delhi for more than six months. The operation which cost about Rs 10 lakh was successfully completed.

"I had lost all hopes. We visited all the doctors in and around Bathinda and Mansa. Every doctor gave us some hope initially, but to no avail. Finally, a doctor told me that our son can be treated only in Delhi and that too at a high cost of treatment. My husband is a small farmer and it was not possible for us to visit Delhi," said Baljit Kaur, the child's mother.
