The Haryana government has decided to open 1000 Vyayam Shalas in rural areas in the first phase to popularise yoga in the state.
This was announced by Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal on the opening day of the two-day Yoga Prashikshan Shivar organised jointly by Haryana AYUSH Department and Sports and Youth Affairs department at Cricket Stadium, Sector 3, Panchkula.
Manohar Lal said that coaches would be appointed in these Vyayam Shalas to impart training to the youth.
The chief minister said that we should not confine only to the celebrations of International Yoga Day but also take Yoga further to ensure mental, spiritual and physical wellbeing of the people. He said that though facilities of parks are available in almost every town and city to carry out physical exercise, yet there is a need to provide similar facilities in villages to revive our old sports traditions like yoga, wrestling and Kabbadi. Therefore, keeping this in view, the Government has decided to open 1000 Vyayam Shalas in the villages in the first phase. Each Vyayam Shala would be set up over an area of two acres of land to be provided by the village Panchayat, he added.
He said that the celebration of this day would not only bring countries closer to each other, but would also immensely benefit the people and added that Ramdev is playing a vital role in this direction.
Haryana health minister Anil Vij stated that the state government will put in place a system as per which yoga would be practiced before the start of school, colleges and offices. He said that it is a matter of pride that trainers from India were imparting yoga training in the countries where International Yoga Day would be observed.
