Also, the state police authorities are contemplating to increase number of women police officials in the field.

K Selvaraj, additional director general of police (crime against women), told Hindustan Times on Tuesday that three police stations at Gurgaon, Faridabad and Bahadurgarh (Jhajjar) would soon be made functional.

He said the state government had agreed to the proposal and an official notification was awaited to announce these stations open.

Following the recent Delhi gangrape case, the Sonepat district had established two all-women police stations in Sonepat city and Khanpur.

Currently, Sonepat is the only district to have women police stations.

In May last year, a 19-year-old law student at Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, a women university, was gangraped at Khanpur.

Selvaraj said currently strength of women staff constitutes 6.7% and efforts were being made to raise it to 10% in a phased manner.

Meanwhile, superintendent of police Shashank Anand said he had also sent a proposal to open a women police station and depute 100 more women constables in the district.

Sources said the Karnal police were also planning to increase women police control room (PCR) vans from existing one to five in the district.

According to the state crime record bureau (SCRB), 687 rape cases were reported from various districts in 2012 and Karnal had topped the tally with 63.
