HC allows residents to park vehicles along service lane for 1 hour
City residents can heave a sigh of relief as the Punjab and Harayana High court on Wednesday allowed residents to park their vehicles for at least 1 hour on the service lanes as paid parking along the service lanes at Ferozepur Road. On May 20, HC had directed the visitors at small shops and business establishments to park their vehicles on service lanes in front of these shops for 15 minutes.
City residents can heave a sigh of relief as the Punjab and Harayana High court on Wednesday allowed residents to park their vehicles for at least 1 hour on the service lanes as paid parking along the service lanes at Ferozepur Road.
On May 20, HC had directed the visitors at small shops and business establishments to park their vehicles on service lanes in front of these shops for 15 minutes.
On Wednesday, the court extended the time limit for parking to 1 hour.
After an hour a fine would be imposed on the vehicle and if the vehicle is not removed from the parking for two hours the traffic police would be authorised to impound the vehicle and impose a fine of Rs 2,000.
The HC has taken another important decision regarding sealed premises on the Ferozepur Road.
These buildings have to submit their site plan along with other relevant documents to the municipal corporation, after which the MC commissioner would take a final call on whether to open these establishments or not.
Sources say that the court observed that there was a need of paid parking on the parking along Ferozepur Road.
The court has also directed the MC that the establishments including marriage halls and hotels should hold functions as per their capacity and not more than that as it resulted in traffic chaos on Ferozepur Road.
A detailed report was submitted by the two local commissioners that were appointed by the high court that stated, Oliva restaurant that was sealed by the MC has created a pathway for vehicles to the basement of the complex and also that staircase to the basement has been removed.
Advocate Harpreet Sandhu had himself submitted the report to the local commissioners Amit Prasher and Arjun Sheoran who visited the city on May 25 for inspection.
The next hearing has been fixed for July 10. Assistant commissioner of police (traffic) Dhruman Nimbley was also present in the hearing.
