The health authorities on Thursday visited fast food joints, fruit shops and vendors in the city and checked their food hygienic status.

A team of health department including Dr Balwinder Singh, district health officer, Dr Harjotpal Singh and Sukhrao Singh, food safety officers collected the samples.

Dr Harjotpal said that fast food joints, fruit shops and rehris were visited in the areas including Rainik Bazaar, Tikki chowk, Jyoti chowk, Nakodar road, Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Model Town, bus stand wherein food samples were checked while over ripe fruits were destroyed.

He said they had issued instructions to the food joints and shopkeepers to take care of sanitation and maintain hygienic standards in their workshops.
