In continuation of the Road Safety Week celebrations, the district administration along with traffic police on Thursday apprised NSS volunteers and students of traffic rules at Pal Auditorium, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), here.
Concerned over accident victims not being provided held by people, assistant commissioner of police (ACP) (traffic) Richa Agnihotri urged students to follow traffic rules and provide help to accident victims.
Agnihotri said: “Some people shy away from helping accident victims fearing that they may get involved in any litigation or police might question them.”
She said no private or government hospital could refuse first-aid to any accident victim and if they did so, action would be taken against them.
She said: “Today's youth can play crucial role in educating masses about the importance of traffic rules. Following traffic rules should be part of our lifestyle.”
Dr Ravinder Kaur Dhaliwal, director, students welfare, PAU, was the chief guest while Anil Garg, district transport officer (DTO), Ludhiana, and Richa Agnihotri were the guests of honour on the occasion.
A team from Fortis Hospitals, Ludhiana, also organised an awareness rally in the city which was flagged off by the DTO and ACP (traffic). A team of doctors from Fortis Hospital, including Dr Prashant Puri, Dr Sanjeev Mahajan and Dr Vishnu Gupta, gave brief presentations about ways to provide first-aid to students.

{{/usCountry}}The DTO said the week was organised to make masses aware about safe driving and ways to avoid accidents by following traffic rules. Youth and social organisations from Ludhiana had been roped in for the purpose, he said.
Students of Government High School, Kheri-Jhameri village, staged a skit on road safety on the occasion.
