The vigilance bureau sleuths on Thursday caught a platoon commander of home guards accepting bribe of Rs 5,000.

The accused has been identified as Parminder Singh, platoon commander of urban company at Sangrur. Sursh Arora, chief director-cum-director general of police (vigilance bureau) said acting on the complaint Iqbal Singh of Ram Basti, Sangrur, who had been dismissed from service as a volunteer in Punjab home guard and civil defence department a few years ago, local VB officials arrested the accused.

As per available information, the accused official was demanding bribe to reinstate his job in the department. "We laid a trap and arrested Parminder while accepting bribe in the presence of government witnesses," he said.
