Posting the matter to July 25, justice Hari Pal Verma told the central government’s information and technology ministry as well as information and broadcasting ministry to file an affidavit as to what steps were being taken to check fictitious accounts.

The Punjab government, meanwhile, submitted that report from Forensic Laboratory, Chandigarh, on voice samples of Singh was awaited.

The FIR was registered by Nawan Shahr police against Hardesh Singh popularly known as Honey Singh during the pendency of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by a man named Parvinder Singh Kittna on the allegations of singing a vulgar song in 2012.

However, Singh had denied having sung the song, and the then chief justice had disposed of the PIL giving liberty to Singh to take steps for getting the FIR quashed, whereupon he filed an instant petition for seeking quashing of the case.
