In yet another case of honour killing, a girl’s father and brother were rounded up by the district police on Friday night for allegedly killing her for honour.
Postmortem examination report confirms that 15-yearold Monica was first strangled and then hanged by neck at her house at Kabulpura village in Assandh area of the district.
Mohan Lal and his son Sonu have also allegedly confessed to their crime before the police.
Preliminary police investigation revealed that the deceased was in a relationship with a youth of her community, who was residing in the vicinity.
Station house officer, Assandh, Mohan Lal, said that Monica’s family had first approached the police that their daughter committed suicide by hanging herself on late on Thursday night.
They had named Bablu, a youth in the neighbourhood for allegedly trying to sexually abuse their minor daughter.
The family members told the police that Monica was found with Bablu on Thursday night. Humiliated over the development, Monica committed suicide, the family members of the deceased had claimed. On the basis of the statement of the girl’s family, Bablu was rounded up by the police.
“However, the scene of crime raised suspicion of a foul play as there were visible injury marks on the body and the way the body was found hanging didn’t convince the police that it was a suicide. A postmortem examination report has confirmed that it was not a suicide but a case of murder,” said the SHO.

After Monica was missing from home, the family found her with Bablu at his house. Agitated over it, Mohan Lal and his son Sonu strangled Monica and then hanged her body to give it the colour of a suicide,” said the SHO.
