HP: Met forecasts snow in high-altitude reaches this weekend

The Met has forecast snowfall in the high-altitude reaches and rain in the middle and lower areas of the state this weekend.

The Met has forecast snowfall in the high-altitude reaches and rain in the middle and lower areas of the state this weekend.

“Snowfall is expected in high-altitude areas, while lower and middle reaches would be lashed by light to moderate rain October 24 onwards,” Shimla Meteorological Centre director Manmohan Singh said. “There’s a fresh western disturbance as an upper air trough in the westerlies extends up to mid tropospheric levels,” he added.

Meanwhile, the mercury is gradually dipping in the hill state. The lowest minimum temperature on Wednesday was recorded at Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti district at 1.6°C.

“The minimum temperatures have decreased by two-three notches in the past last 24 hours. The dip in temperature will continue in the coming days,” Singh added.

Minimum temperature at Kalpa was recorded at 3.6°C, Manali 4.6°C, Bhuntar 9°C, Shimla 10.8°C, Sundernagar 10.9°C, Solan 11°C, Dalhousie 11.2°C, Una 11.5°C, Kangra 12.4°C, Hamirpur 12.6°C, Palampur 13°C, Chamba 13.5°C, Bilaspur 14.1°C, Mandi 14.9°C, Dharamshala 15.4°C and Nahan 17.7°C.
