It takes only ten minutes for the government to pass bills pertaining to increase allowances of chief minister, ministers and legislators, but even after six months, the high-powered committee's report on fee hike in the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) is gathering dust with the government.
Students associations have been protesting against the HPU administration and the state government for increasing the fee and not disclosing the recommendations about the fee hike.
In September last year after vehement protests, the government constituted a high-powered committee chaired by retired HC judge VK Sharma and gave one month time to submit a report.
The committee submitted the report to the chief minister on October 20 and the government referred the report to education department for further analyses.
"It has been six months, the education department is still sitting on the report and the students are forced to pay increased fee second time," said Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) state joint secretary Ashish Sikta.
"The report was submitted to the education department on the same day (October 20)," said a government official, requesting anonymity.
However, the fee hike decision was taken by the highest decision making body of the university with three nominated members of the government.
