A statement issued from the SGPC headquarters here said that Makkar, accompanied by members of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) of Haryana, also submitted a memorandum to the Sirsa deputy commissioner in which he described the move to form the HSGPC as a “direct interference in the affairs of the Sikhs and an attempt to weaken the SGPC, the sole representative body of the Sikhs”.

Earlier addressing SAD members, Makkar warned the Haryana government to drop its move to form a separate committee or else the Sikhs will “stand up” to unitedly oppose it.

“Sikhs have always united when their religion has been threatened and this time too, they will stand up to take on the Haryana government”, he added.
