Heaps of garbage, lack of public toilets, broken roads and non-functional streetlights ail the ward of the second-time councillor Sheela Phool Singh. No major change was the highlight of her tenure. Residents of Sector 52 tenement colony say the green belts are in bad shape and the councillor could not solve the issue of low water pressure.
In sanitation, Kajheri village has a lot of work to be done with garbage piled up even on the roads. The roads are mere mud tracks and have not been re-carpeted way past their sell-by date. Water supply is also a major issue.
An area that bucks the general trend of apathy is, however, Sector 43 with well-maintained roads and green belts. However, this could be due to the fact that there is an active resident welfare association here.
Commuters, however, have a major grouse that it is impossible to cross the path to the rear of the Sector-43 ISBT as there is no streetlight and it is pitch dark at night.
Sheela, aiming to contest the MC elections for the third time, says, “I got two community centres each cleared for Sector 43 and Kajheri. The proposals for the construction of a stadium in Kajheri and a dispensary in Sector 52 has also been cleared. Paver blocks were also laid.”

{{/usCountry}}Sheela says it was only after her husband Phool Singh — who was a committed Congress worker — died in 2006 that she, a mother of two kids, decided to take the electoral plunge. She contested in 2006 and won to represent Dhanas and Sector 25.
Considered close to the former member of Parliament (MP) Pawan Bansal camp, she contested again in 2011 and won from this ward.
Sheela says “I contested to fulfil the dreams of my husband. I like serving the people of my ward and take feedback to redress grievances.”
She plans to contest thiss time from some other ward.
Sheela had the intent to serve the people, but her House performance did not reflect that as she was hardly vocal in meetings. Her quiet nature, perhaps, only made her suited to resolve petty issues with no headlines being made by whatever little she did say in the municipal corporaation House. She takes credit for re-carpeting of roads in Sector 52 and a new bridge being constructed at Kajheri.

“She was not accessible and the situation has deteriorated. From roads, sanitation to street lights, nothing is in good shape. Residents faced water shortage and basic amenities are a distant dream,” Jaswant Jaswal, vice-president, BJP district, number 3, said.
