To demand more representation for the Hindu community in the Punjab Congress, prominent Hindu leaders from the Congress on Sunday authorised Batala MLA Ashwani Sekhri and Ludhiana MLA Rakesh Pandey to take up the matter with the high command.
Led by Pandey , they raised their concern over the declining representation of the Hindu community in the Congress.
The Hindu community traditionally votes for the Congress, but the state leadership is continously ignoring the community. Thus, it has lost 2012 assembly elections and now the party will suffer in the Lok Sabha elections if the grievances of the community were not addressed, deliberated the leaders, who said that as per population four to five Lok Sabha ticket should be given to Hindus.
Now as the candidates have been announced, the leaders has decided to authorise Sekhri and Pandey to take up the matter with the high command and apprise them that the Hindu community vote was shifting towards the Akalis and the BJP, said former mayor Vishnu Sharma, who has organised the meeting.
Pandey said that he would approach the high command to consider their and give due representation to Hindu leaders in the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. He also announced that all leaders would work for Congress candidates in their respective districts.
