Sharma said: “This is in contravention to the norms of any organisation and he should not have gone public on this issue.”

The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Ludhiana, held a meeting of office-bearers under the chairmanship of president Dr RK Sharma on Saturday and supported the Punjab Medical Council (PMC) for taking action against bachelor of ayurveda, medicine and surgery (BAMS) doctors practicing in allopathy.

He said ignoring such norms amounted to quackery and IMA fully supported the efforts of the PMC in doing away with quackery in the state.

Dr Deepak Parasher, secretary, IMA, said that PMC registrar had created an avoidable controversy as knowing the Supreme Court guidelines would have been enough. IMA also demanded that PMC registrar, chairman of Ayurvedic and Unani Board, should quit or be removed from other posts.
