As the garbage is not being lifted on time from the dumps in the city, the residents are at the receiving end. Foul smell emanates from the garbage dumps, making the surrounding unhygienic.

Summers are round the corner so hygiene needs to be maintained as residents, mainly slum dwellers, are gripped by several diseases like malaria and dengue.

Garbage lifting, most of the times, is done late in the afternoon whereas the A to Z garbage lifting contractor is required to do the same in the morning as well as in the evening. Such a functioning by the contractor leaves residents fumed as they choose alternative routes to reach to their destinations to avoid filthy and stinking garbage dumps.

According to the residents, no spray work is being done at these dumps to stop the stink.

The dumps where the situation has gone from bad to worse include the dump opposite Chattar Singh park in Model Town, the dump opposite Orient Theatre in BRS Nagar, in Book Market near Chaura Bazar, behind Guru Nanak Public School in Sarabha Nagar and near Government Kanya School in Jawahar Nagar Camp.

Also passers-by urinate at the dumps. The residents of the slums use the dumps to defecate.
