In his letter addressed to district electoral office (DEO)-cum deputy commissioner (DC), independent candidate Jai Parkash Jain alias Titu Baniya said his gunmen could be utilised in maintaining law and order situation or providing security to public.

“As I also mentioned in my election manifesto that I would oppose VIP culture if elected, I expressed my desire to return the two gunmen. As polling in Punjab is over, I don’t need the security any more. Moreover, I have no threat to life,” Jain said.

“The security men can be deputed on general law and order duty or in the security of common people. In the wake of rising crime in the city, the people need the security more than me,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention that 21 out of the 22 candidates in fray for the Lok Sabha seat were provided security by the district administration. However, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate HS Phoolka had refused to take gunmen.
