Communist Party of India (CPI) held a rally from the local railway station to clock tower to appeal to the government of India and Pakistan to shun war rhetoric against each other on Monday.
In the rally the members of the CPI also congratulated the Nobel Peace Prize winners Kailash Satyarthi from India and Malala Yusufzai of Pakistan.
The party members held a dharna for a couple of minutes outside the city railway station's main entrance
as they raised slogans.
CPI's national secretary Amarjeet Kaur said it was unfortunate that the tension between the two countries was being used as petty electoral gains in both the countries. She criticised the Indian PM and Pakistan PM for giving statements regarding teaching lesson to each other and said such statements only add fuel to fire.
District secretary of the Ludhiana unit Kartar Singh Bowani said issues between the two countries should be sorted out through peace initiatives and mutual dialogue only.
Assistant secretary, Dr Arun Mitra, said, “We are poor nations and only a peaceful coexistence will ensure prosperity in both the nations. This holds even more significance in the wake of floods in Jammu and Kashmir which have caused large scale devastation.
