In an interaction with the industry on Tuesday evening, Y Srinivasa Rao, project director, DRDO, said a majority of manufacturers in southern parts of the country were supplying tools and machinery to the premier organisation that developed defence related equipment.

Several industrialists had gathered at the panel discussion which was held to discuss the fifth edition of Engineering Expo-2014. The exhibition, which is being organised by the Association of Ludhiana Machine Tool Industries (ALMTI), will kick start on December 12 and continue till December 15.

Rao said it was easy for Ludhiana manufacturers to sign deals with the companies which were already providing tools and equipment to the DRDO so that it became easy even for the small manufacturers in the city to provide goods to the organisation.

He said: “Several small and medium enterprises (SMEs) who come from all parts of India have hugely benefitted from this mega trade exposition. A business delegation will also visit the show from Taiwan.”

With wi-fi internet availability, media centre and a huge screen would be installed at GLADA ground on Chandigarh road, Sukhdial said.

Avtar Singh, principal secretary, investment promotion, said there was a need for an exhibition ground in Ludhiana and the state government had already approved a site for the centre.
