Infant girl ‘stolen’ from Pathankot civil hospital

A woman allegedly stole a one-and-half-month baby girl from her mother at Pathankot Civil Hospital here. The complaint was made by Sapna, the child’s the mother. Sapna, a resident of Bajri Company here, told the police that she was standing in a queue at the hospital’s OPD when the alleged accused started a conversation with her.

Sapna, a resident of Bajri Company here, told the police that she was standing in a queue at the hospital’s OPD when the alleged accused started a conversation with her.

The victim said the woman talked about government schemes for girls. “She told me that the state was paying Rs 30,000, and I just have to fill a form and submit it to the hospital in order to avail the scheme,” Sapna said, added that the woman convinced her.

“She even gave a copy of the form to me and asked me to get a Xerox copy of it,” Sapna said, adding, “I took the form, and as I was leaving, she told me I could hand over my daughter to her. She even gave me her bag so that she could free her hands to hold my baby.”

Sapna said she when she returned back, the accused had fled from the spot. “I tried looking for her, but did not find her anywhere,” weeping Sapna told the police.

Meanwhile, civil hospital authorities have asked the patients and their attendants to beware of such people.
