Inmates ends life at Ferozepur jail

An inmate of the Ferozepur Central Jail, who was serving life sentence in a murder case, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree on Friday.

An inmate of the Ferozepur Central Jail, who was serving life sentence in a murder case, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree on Friday.

Joginder Singh, a resident of Burji village under Mamdot police station, was found hanging from a tree near old barracks at about 7.30 am just when inmates were released from their respective cells, said DK Singh, superintendent of the jail.

Barrack in-charge Gursewak Singh and warden Joginder Singh have been suspended, he added.
Later, additional civil judicial magistrate Ranjit Kaur reached the spot to conduct a judicial probe into the incident. DSP Vibhore Sharma accompanied her.

Joginder Singh was booked under Section 302 of the IPC on August 24, 2011, and was awarded life sentence in December besides a fine of Rs 10,000. The body was handed over to the family after post mortem.
