A drive to inspect the buses across the city schools organised by the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) was conducted here on Tuesday.
Directed by the Punjab and Haryana high court to check the safety measures taken by the schools under the safe transportation policy of students, many schools were found wanting on requisite documents.
Three teams were formed, comprising representatives of CCPCR, education department, state transport authority (STA) and the traffic police.
Team number 1 visited St John’s High School and Institute for the Blind, Sector 26, Chandigarh. As many as 18 buses were inspected at St John’s School. It was observed that in some of the buses registration number was not painted on the sides of the vehicle, phone number of the STA and of school was not prominently displayed and detailed list of children was not available with the driver.
A period of one week was given to the school to comply with the same. However, it was found that the school has an alcohol analyser, regular checking for consumption of alcohol is conducted, police verification of all bus drivers and attendants was complete and the papers related to the buses were in order. The buses had jack knife door, except one that had manual control.
After that, the team visited the Institution for the Blind, where it was found that the process of police verification of drivers and conductor was not complete. The team provided the institution two days to get the process initiated. Team 2 visited GMSSS-19, GMSSS-20 and Ankur Public School, Sector 14, Chandigarh. The schools have not completed the formats and submitted necessary documents for which they have been given 24 hours.

{{/usCountry}}Team 3 visited SD Public School, Sector 32; St Kabir Public School, Sector 26 and GMSSS, Sector 16. It was found that the school had not compiled the documents as per the formats supplied to them. The schools have been given 24 hours to make available all forms and necessary annexure to the inspecting team.
CCPCR chairperson Devi Sirohi has also instructed the UT education department to direct the schools that the formats are duly filled and kept ready, along with necessary documents, at the time of inspection.
The Punjab and Haryana high court has empowered the CCPCR for monitoring safe transportation policy of students and the first status report of the same is to be filed before the court on January 15.
