While Lajja Ram’s son, sitting Congress legislator Ram Kumar Chaudhary, has been lodged in Ambala jail by Haryana police for allegedly murdering a young woman Jyoti, his family is campaigning aggressively to present a clean image to the party leadership.

Madan, also the chairman of the Baddi nagar parishad, has been visiting villages to campaign for the party’s Shimla candidate Mohan Lal Brakta.

“My brother has been framed in a murder case by Haryana police. He has been elected by the people of the segment with a respectable margin. How can a responsible public representative commit such a heinous crime,” Madan claimed.

He added that the opposition’s “propaganda regarding the anti-industries approach of the UPA government would fall flat in the current elections as the party had undertaken commendable development projects”.

Local BJP unit president Gopal Thakur claimed, “Before Ram Kumar, no public representative in Himachal was jailed for murder. His actions have virtually shamed the land of gods.”

However, Lajja Ram countered, “The Congress will get a respectable lead in this segment as we have carried out massive development activities during the last 25 years.”
