Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, which received clearance from the state government, now will notify the 103-acre initiative of Adampur's Sant Baba Bhag Singh Charitable Society.

"The Punjab government has given us the letter of intent to build the educational complex into private university in the state," Sant Baba Bhag Singh Educational Complex director general HS Sagar said here on Friday. "The idea is to bring higher education revolution to the region," he added. The region has Punjab Technical University and Lovely Professional University already.

The main campus of the new university cleared the minimum requirement of 35 acres easily by finding three times the space at Khiala village near Adampur. The new students will come into the university fold, while the older batches are under the PTU rules.

The governing body runs an institute of engineering and technology, a postgraduate college, and an institute of education and nursing already at the place.

Sports research to be forte

It will work on sports development and research in the region by building an institute for it on the campus. Building the entire university will be a `200-crore investment plan.

"The number of seats in each courses will be declared now and admission given on merit as laid down by the state government," said Sagar, adding that the university could even run new courses from the coming session subject to approval.
