The special investigation team (SIT) probing the kidney racket seem to have woken up from its slumber to prepare a reply to a notice issued by the Punjab and Haryana high court on September 19. Special investigation team members held meetings on Monday and Tuesday to draft a response.
The high court had issued the notice to the state government over a petition filed by Dr Rajesh Aggarwal, owner of National Kidney Hospital in Jalandhar, allegedly involved in a kidney racket.
Dr Aggarwal, along with his wife Deepa Aggarwal, are on the run, has challenged Punjab police’s move to investigate the case under the Transplantation of Human Organs (TOHO) Act, 1994.
After the information about the issuance of a notice by the HC arrived here, the SIT headed by deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Sandeep Kumar Sharma with other members discussed the case on Monday evening.
On Tuesday morning, another meeting that lasted for three hours at police control room between members of the special investigation team includes DCP Sharma, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) (headquarters) Alka Meena, ADCP J Elanchezhian, ADCP-2 Amrik Singh Powar and station house officer (SHO) Navdeep Singh to discuss preparation for filling the reply in the court.
Before Monday, SIT members have reportedly never held a meeting about the case and its proceedings were almost stopped. As per the sources, the role of each member in the special investigation team has been cleared and it is suggested that entire special investigation team should go in the high court on September 19 to file the reply.

In the high court, the petitioners told that they had no role in illegal kidney transplant racket apart from running the hospital and performing kidney transplant surgeries.
