Jalandhar police rescue kidnapped child within five hours; three arrested

The police managed to rescue a five-year-old boy, who was kidnapped from his house in Rurka Khurd village of Phillaur sub-division on Diwali night, and arrested three persons within five hours of the kidnapping.

Police said the phone calls made by one of the kidnappers from his mobile phone landed them in the police net.

The five-year-old boy identified as Hussain Khan, was taken away at around 8.15 pm on Sunday.

Hussain’s father Nisan Khan (27), a POP contractor said that he has three children—Faisal Khan (10), daughter Kaaniya (8) and Hussain Khan (5)—and on Diwali night, three persons, having sharp-edged weapons, scaled the wall of his house and took them hostage.

He further stated the accused abducted Hussain and fled away with his TVS star city (PB37-D-1760) after opening the gate from inside.

As the police had already put his mobile number on surveillance, they were able to trace the accused and arrest them within five hours of the kidnapping.

Accused knew the family

Police said that before moving in Phillaur, Nisar and his family was living in Mukandpur and the accused knew about his profession and income.

The three accused have been identified as Kamaljeet Verma (19), Manjeet Singh (18) and Jagjeet Singh (22) of Mukandpur town in SBS Nagar district. Verma is a BA-second year student in Mukandpur college while Manjeet is doing an ITI course from Phagwara and Jagjeet Singh had completed his graduation in arts two years ago.

SHO Jaswinder Singh told HT that the accused, who are reportedly drug addicts, had planned to seek ransom from the victim’s family but before they proceed, they fell in the police net.

The SHO told HT that the house where they had kept the boy was taken on rent by them a few days ago. He added that the accused had been taken on remand.

The SHO further informed the police that they have recovered three sharp-edged weapons, a stolen bike and 980 gm intoxicant powder from their possession. A separate FIR under 22, 61 and 85 of NDPS Act has been registered against them.

Nisar Khan said that his son was slapped many times by the accused and his mouth was taped shut so that he could not make any noise.
