Bhargo camp station house officer (SHO) Joginder Pal Singh, who had sent cops to bring a pregnant teacher to the police station on March 22, was suspended here on Monday.

The teacher, Rajni (30), had suffered a miscarriage on March 23.

Assistant commissioner of police (ACP, west) Ravinderpal Singh said Joginder Pal had been shifted to the Police Lines. He said Harwinder Pal Singh Bhalla had joined as the new SHO, adding that the inquiry into the case was in progress.

Earlier, sub-inspector (SI) Bhupinder Singh, who visited Rajni’s house at 6.30am on March 22 to pick her up, had been suspended.

Rajni had alleged that cops picked her up from her house on the suspicion that she was part of the group of teachers that planned to protest and show black flags to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Hussainiwala (Ferozepur).

Rajni suffered a miscarriage after being detained for more than four hours. The medical cause of the miscarriage has been documented as ‘tension’.

Verka had also directed to set up a medical board headed by senior doctors from the Civil Hospital here to ascertain the cause of the miscarriage.
