The issue of killing of two brothers, Jatinder Singh and Harinder Singh of Bohapur village of Machhiwara is still being heard in the court but their father Satpal Singh alias Satti was convicted in a trespassing and assault case and has been sentenced to two-year imprisonment.
The slain brothers along with their father and mother were accused in a trespassing case.
The court of sub divisional judicial magistrate Sumit Bhalla pronounced the imprisonment to Satpal Singh alias Satti. Taking a sympathetic view, the court spared their mother Gurmeet Kaur. The case was lodged by their neighbour Narinder Singh.
Narinder Singh had lodged an FIR at Samrala police station under Sections 452 (trespassing), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (act done by several persons) of the IPC against Jatinder Singh, Harinder Singh, their father Satpal Singh and mother Gurmeet Kaur on May 10, 2010.
He alleged that on May 9, the accused had trespassed in his house and assaulted him with sharp edged weapons over a petty issue of plucking trees planted by the accused in the fields.
Satpal Singh has pleaded for lenient view for himself and his wife in the court saying that his both sons died during the pendency of the case and that both parents are old aged persons.
In the judgement, the court said that their two sons died during pendency of the case but that does not mean that gravity of offence becomes lesser. Keeping in view the provision of Section 360 of CrPC and keeping in view that convict Gurmeet Kaur's old age, she was ordered to be released on furnishing probationary bonds of Rs 50,000 with a direction to be peaceful in society.
The court refused to take a sympathetic view for father and said, he does not deserve any kind of leniency due to the gravity of offences and manner in which it was committed. The court announced 'rigorous imprisonment of two years under Section 452 of the IPC and another six months under Section 323 and 34.
It is pertinent to mention that Harinder and Jitender were gunned down at their paying guest accommodation at Jamalpur allegedly by an Akali leader Gurjit Singh and four cops of Machhiwara police station on September 27, 2014.
The police had arrested the Akali leader and three cops includingYadwinder Singh and Punjab homeguard jawans Baldev Singh and Ajit Singh.
Dismissed Machhiwara SHO, Inspector Manjinder Singh and his driver Sukhbir Singh are still absconding. The police had submitted chargesheet in the court in the case.
