Jasmyra murder: mother held,remanded in judicial custody

The local police on Saturday arrested Harsimranjit Kaur (29), accused of killing her four-year-old daughter, Jasmyra, whose decomposed body was found in a Model Town house on Friday.

The local police on Saturday arrested Harsimranjit Kaur (29), accused of killing her four-year-old daughter, Jasmyra, whose decomposed body was found in a Model Town house on Friday.

The accused was arrested from Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, where she was undergoing treatment after allegedly attempting suicide by jumping in front of a train on Vikas Nagar railway crossing on the intervening night of April 23 and 24. The woman had lost a leg in the incident.

According to Model Town station house officer (SHO) Devinder Kumar Choudhary, Kaur had earlier tried to commit suicide by hanging herself.

She also tried to set herself ablaze, but failed. Thereafter, she consumed some poisonous substance and was rushed to a private hospital in the area. At the hospital, she had stated that she had fallen ill due to overdose of a medicine. She remained admitted in the hospital till April 23.

Kaur was produced before the court of duty magistrate, who sent her to judicial remand.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) City 2 Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said the court remanded Kaur in judicial custody and sent her to women jail. The police would take her on police remand again for investigation, he added.

The police on Friday has booked Kaur for murder and attempt to suicide.
