Keeping in view the Talwandi Sabo byelection, the district administration seems to be providing the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) all possible help to woo the voters by allowing its ‘candidate-in-waiting’ Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu to review the development works of the constituency at an administrative meeting. In race to be the SAD’s candidate for the byelection, former Congress MLA from the constituency and SAD leader Sidhu virtually conducted the review meeting.

Although those, who attended the meeting, said it was held to discuss the development works in the district, yet a most time was spent on discussing the progress of works in Talwandi Sabo. Sidhu was the only political leader present at the meeting held to discuss administrative affairs. None of the MLAs from the other five assembly segments of the district was present.

Sidhu, who is still not an elected representative, was virtually conducting the meeting. He was at the meeting for an hour, sitting next to deputy commissioner Basant Garg.

The DC said that the meeting was conducted to review the development works of the whole district and Talwandi Sabo was merely a part of it. Asked why former MLA was sitting alongside him in the meeting, he avoided answering and said that Sidhu was present only for half-an-hour.

He denied having conducted the meeting and said that there was no restriction on sitting next to the DC at such a meeting and claimed that the meeting had nothing to do with the byelection at Talwandi Sabo.
