JERC gets proposal: Residents may sell solar power to UT

The permission has been sought so that residents installing solar power plants on the houses of their rooftops can earn revenue through net metering. In the petition, it has been mentioned that an agreement will be signed between a solar power developer and the electricity department for 25 years.

The electricity department has stated that every grid-connected solar power project with data storage of 45 days should have these meters. The storage data will help in preparing the bills. The JERC last year had notified the Solar Roof Top and Metering Regulations , 2015, but since then no agreement has been made between the solar power developer and distribution licencees.

The department had sent a draft proposal to the commission in October last year and the commission had asked the department to file a petition on the issue.

136 applications for solar plants

As many as 136 residents have applied for setting up solar power plants at the rooftops of their houses. Of them, as many as 119 have applied for net metering and total 17 have applied for gross metering. The department has also issued connection to 35 consumers, but due to the lack of power purchase agreement, both net and gross metering could not be initiated.
