Justice Mohunta takes oath as HC judge

Ashutosh Mohunta, transferred from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh high court, on Thursday took oath as judge of the Punjab and Haryana high court. He was administered the oath of office by chief justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul in the high court complex.

Justice Mohunta takes oath as HC judgJustice Ashutosh Mohunta, transferred from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh high court, on Thursday took oath as judge of the Punjab and Haryana high court. He was administered the oath of office by chief justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul in the high court complex. Justice Mohunta has become the seniormost judge of the high court after the chief justice. He is left with eight-month service period, as his retirement is due in February next year. The high court judges' strength has now reached 48.

Justice Mohunta was earlier with the Punjab and Haryana high court for around nine years since his elevation as judge in July 2001 and was transferred to the then Andhra Pradesh high court in October 2010.

A native of Sirsa in Haryana, he completed his LLB from Delhi University in 1976 and started practice as an advocate in the Punjab and Haryana high court. His father, late SC Mohunta, was the advocate general of Haryana.

The oath ceremony was attended by the high court judges and advocates.
