The work on the proposed 100-bed satellite centre of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science and Research, Chandigarh, here may be delayed as the authorities are still struggling to finalise land for the project.
Horticulture department was to give 25-acre land on Ferozepur-Moga road for the proposed project and in exchange it would get as much panchayat land at Wajidpur village, as per the proposal mooted by financial commissioner (development) Suresh Kumar, which had been cleared by the chief minister Parkash Singh Badal. As per the proposal, horticulture department was to get the land at Wajidpur village on lease by paying Rs 25,000 per acre annually. The village panchayat had also passed a resolution in this regard.
Though horticulture department was ready to surrender its 25-acre land, but it wanted as much and as productive land in exchange and that too without any monetary liability, sources said. The department also wanted that land be given to it permanently and not on lease, sources said.
Sources said that the CM had been apprised of the situation and final decision was likely to be taken next week once financer commissioner (development) Suresh Kumar returns from abroad.

The healthcare facilities in Ferozepur division are in all bad shape and patients needing specialist medical services have to travel to Ludhiana or Amritsar, said Amit Dhawan, a local resident.
