Thanks to the highest powers, Bathinda is likely to get uninterrupted electricity. Within a week, the chief minister will get a notification passed for uninterrupted supply of power to the district, Sarup Chand Singla, chief parliamentary secretary for excise and taxation, has claimed.
The regular supply of electricity is a long-pending demand in Bathinda. At times, local people have gone on protest for it. In July last year, the villagers of Jethuke blocked traffic to highlight the issue.
At a press conference here on Monday, Singla claimed that the CM would get the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to issue a notice within a week for 24-hour supply to Bathinda. On August 12, 2001, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had agreed during sangat darshan that Bathinda would be state's first power-cut-free town.
In September 2001, science and technology minister Chiranji Lal Garg of the Shiromani Akali Dal had stated that Bathinda would be supplied with energy 24 hours to compensate the city for living under the cloud of smoke and fly ash from Guru Nanak Dev thermal electricity plant.
Before the 2009 parliamentary elections, the notification for regular power supply to Bathinda town emerged from the erstwhile Punjab state electricity board (PSEB). It was cancelled after Harsimrat Kaur Badal became member of parliament from Bathinda.
