As many as 23 benches cleared 13,410 traffic challans and a fine of Rs 30.12 lakh was realised as penalty.

During the day-long lok adalat, 167 cases were settled under section 138 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, while these benches awarded compensation of Rs 41.47 lakh in the motor accident claim tribunal (MACT) cases.

It also disposed of 851 civil cases, rent cases, Hindu Marriage Act (HMA) cases, executions, appeals, complaints and labour cases etc.

DPI Punjab to vacate building by Sept 30

Putting an end to a long-pending landlord-tenant dispute, the Punjab government has agreed to vacate SCO 95-96-97, in which DPI (schools), Punjab, has office since 1975. The owner of the building, Resham Singh Lalli, had moved the court in 1992 seeking directions to the Punjab government to vacate the premises. On behalf of the Punjab government, an education department official submitted that they would vacate the building by September 30 and pay pending rent of Rs 10.19 lakh. Lalli in his complaint had said that the Punjab government was paying Rs 6,267 as rent for the three floors.

Cases between ex-mayor, brother disposed of the lok adalat along with other disputes disposed of multiple litigations between former city mayor Subash Chawla and his brother in cases involving property dispute and defamation.
