Cab collides with pick-up van on GT road near Shahbad; victims include 2 students hailing from Nagaland, one of them from LPU

Four people, including two students hailing from Nagaland, were killed and three others seriously injured in a road accident on the GT road (NH1) near Shahbad town of the district on Tuesday night.

The accident took place when a Swift Dzire hired by the students collided with a pick-up van coming from the wrong side on the GT road around 10pm.

The deceased included Ohito (21), a student of Lovely Professional University (LPU), Phagwara, and Memio (22), a student of a private coaching centre in Delhi, both hailing from Kohima, Nagaland. Car driver Ajit Singh and van driver Surender Singh also died on the spot.

The injured were identified as Virie, Kezhale Tou and Theja Silic, all students of LPU. They were admitted to Adesh hospital near Shahbad with multiple injuries. Their condition was said to be critical.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Shahbad police station in-charge inspector Ramesh Kumar said, “The LPU students were going in a taxi from Delhi to Jalandhar when the accident occurred.”

“We are trying to contact their family members in Kohima and collect details of the deceased and the injured,” said some friends of the victims who reached the hospital.
