Two robbers shot dead a financier and his wife after breaking into their house in Dugri area here on Friday.
The incident took place around 4.30 pm. “It appears that the robbers killed Sunil Gupta, 42, and his wife Neelam, 38, after the couple confronted them,” said police commissioner RN Dhoke after visiting the spot.
The double murder comes a day after a city industrialist shot dead his wife and son before killing himself, pointing towards the rise in crime graph in the industrial capital of Punjab.
Police said the robbers had locked couple’s son Rahul, 16, inside a bathroom.
An eyewitness saw one of the robbers falling off the roof in a bid to escape. He sustained leg injuries and was immediately nabbed by the neighbours. He has been identified as Sandeep, while his accomplice Raju Tewari managed to flee. The duo works as ward boys in a city based hospital. Police said it was trying to ascertain the details about the money and other stolen items.
