Regular power cuts in the Focal Point area of the city, which includes domestic as well as industrial consumers on large scale, has made the people face tough time.
Chamber of the Industrial and Commercial Undertaking (CICU) general secretary Upkar Singh Ahuja said, "The power supply in this area has been affected for the last one month due to the shut down of 220KVA feeder in Dhandhari Kalan." He said the regular power cuts had derailed the production process in the industrial units. "If we can't get regular power supply even in winters, how can we think of it in summers," he said.
The power consumers are suffering due to improper response from the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) as every time they call the complaint cell, they don't get answer as to when the snag would be rectified.
Amandeep Singh, a resident of Mundian Kalan, said, "We are facing problems due to frequent power cuts, that too in the morning hours. In winters, we don't need electricity to run fans but we need it to get water supply. The cut in the morning, that too without any prior information, has made the life hell as then we have to run here and there to get water from handpumps."
Riya Garg, another resident of the area, said, "Every time we complaint to the complaint centre, there is no proper response as we are told that the power will be restored once electricity cut ends." Besides Focal Point division, several other parts of the city are also facing unscheduled power cuts.
CICU president Avtar Singh said, "It is needless to mention that Ludhiana industry is already going through very crucial time and such regular power breakdowns in the industrial area, even for one day, cause huge losses. The power cuts do not only lead to production losses, but also create problems in machinery and equipments."

{{/usCountry}}Ahuja urged PSPCL chairman and managing director (CMD) KD Chaudhari and CMD PSTCL Anirudh Tiwari to take corrective and preventive measures so that losses to industrialists and state exchequer could be prevented.
Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL), Ludhiana, chief engineer Rakesh Sharma said, "There was a fault in the feeder and we restored the electricity supply after rectifying the fault."
