Revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia spent his second consecutive day at the Golden Temple performing 'tankha' (religious punishment) which he was ordained to undergo by the Akal Takht for distorting a hymn of Guru Gobind Singh during an election rally in favour of BJP candidate Arun Jaitley at Amritsar last month.

On Tuesday, he began with paying obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum. Thereafter, he made his way to the Akal Takht where he had on Monday commenced 'akhand paath' (recitation of gurbani) and listened to the prayers being recited by a 'granthi' from the Guru Granth Sahib. Majithia then performed 'sewa' (voluntary service) at the 'langar' (community kitchen) of the shrine, washing utensils and serving 'chapatis' and 'dal' to devotees before
himself partaking of 'langar' (food).

He also performed 'sewa' at the 'joda ghar' (place for keeping shoes) outside the Golden Temple. He performed this 'sewa' on his own, as it was not part of the 'tankha' announced by Giani Gurbachan Singh, the Akal Takht jathedar on May one when the minister presented himself before the Takht.

His exoneration will be final after an 'ardas' for forgiveness is performed at the Akal Takht. He will also deposit an amount of `501 in the 'golak' at the Akal Takht besides making an offering of 'karha parsad' of `101 at the Takht on the final day.
