Revenue and public relations minister Bikram Singh Majithia has slammed the Congress-led UPA government for “mortgaging the interests of the country by bringing changes in the nuclear liability law to favour a few US companies”.
Addressing mediapersons late on Thursday night after paying obeisance at Dera Kahna Dhesian, Majithia said that by changing the nuclear liability law, the UPA government was trying to protect US nuclear companies from paying any compensation in the case of any nuclear mishap.
He said: “It is strange that after tragedies such as Fukushima, Chernobyl or Bhopal gas leak, when all countries are strengthening their safety regulations and tightening their liability laws to hold the erring companies accountable for mishaps, India, under a weak Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, has bartered its interests to please the US. It will not be accepted.”
Majithia said that the UPA had no moral or constitutional right to change nuclear liability law at the fag end of its tenure and the country's president should intervene to stop the “mischief”.
Describing the Congress-led UPA government as an “expired drug” that was dangerous for the health of the India economy, Majithia said: “What kind of economist Prime Minister we have that rupee against dollar has nosedived to a record low with prices of all commodities registering 357% increase in the past nine years of the UPA rule.”
Predicting decimation of the UPA government in ensuing Lok Sabha polls, Majithia said that the UPA was already in the ICU and oxygen cylinders of such ordinances could not save the government.
