Man acquitted of rape after victim turns hostile

On Monday, the victim did not identify the accused and turned hostile from her statements in the court.

A local court acquitted one person of rape charges on Monday. The court of additional district and sessions judge Anshu Shukla acquitted Sahil of Sector 22, of charges under Section 363 (punishment for kidnapping),366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage, etc), 376(2 ) (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 4 and 6 of POCSO Act. The victim in the matter turned hostile and it eventually led to acquittal of the accused.

The matter dates back to October 2016 when the father of the victim filed a complaint regarding her going missing. A day after she went missing, the accused Sahil was arrested by the police and the victim was also recovered. Her medical reports confirmed rape.

On Monday, the victim did not identify the accused and turned hostile from her statements in the court. On these grounds, the accused was acquitted of rape charges.
