The victims suspect that the accused was Jatin of Nawanshahr, who had unsuccessfully applied for a job at the consultancy agency.

They alleged that Jatin had a dispute with the agency owner as she failed to find a job for him even after charging Rs 7,000, adding that he had come to the office on Tuesday morning and threatened the staff for not returning his money.

One of the victims, Vinkal Rana of Peeru Banda of Salem Tabri, told the police that the man entered the office around 3:30pm, and attacked her and two colleagues Neha and Ashu with pepper spray, which led to unbearable irritation in their eyes and skin. Panicked that they could have been attacked with acid, they raised an alarm, following which they were rushed to the hospital.

Police reached the spot and recovered an empty bottle of pepper spray from the office.

Meanwhile, Ramandeep Kaur, owner of the consultancy agency, said the dispute between the agency and Jatin was settled amicably on Tuesday morning, as she had returned his money. She claimed that the assault could be a result of personal rows of the staff.
