The accused was identified as Vijay Kumar of the same village. On the statement of Kashmir Kaur, the grandmother of the victim, the police registered a case on the charge of molestation against the accused under section 354 of the Indian Penal Code.

However, Kashmir Kaur alleged that her granddaughter was raped by Vijay Kumar while she (victim) was alone in the house.

But the accused pleaded that he was being falsely accused by Kashmir Kaur of raping her granddaughter to avoid paying back the money she owed to him. Kashmir Kaur, however, rubbished the charge.

When contacted, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Toor told Hindustan Times that the police were also investigating into the charge levelled by Kashmir Kaur that the child was raped by the accused.

Accusing the police of favouring the accused, Kashmir Kaur said that the girl was allegedly raped on November 13, but the police registered a case in this connection on Tuesday.

Kashmir Kaur said that the accused had entered her house by scaling the outer wall of the house and he first offered the child `100 which she refused to accept. Later, he forcibly took her into a room of her house and raped her.

Meanwhile, Kashmir Kaur told Hindustan Times that she would move an application in the court on Thursday seeking re-investigation into the case and registration of a case against the accused on the charge of raping the girl child
