Police sources said the suspect, who is a resident of the Guru Nanakpura area, was arrested by a police team comprising inspector Sukhwinder Singh, SHO, Kotwali police station; ASI Ranjit Singh, ASI Prem Pal and others at a police check point near the old Improvement Trust office when he was coming from the Sheran Wala Gate area on a stolen motorcycle.

Inspector Sukhwinder Singh said on being questioned, Bhoot confessed to his involvement in at least 20 cases of snatching, including those at Company Gardens, in front of Guru Nanak Dev University, at Green Avenue, Rani Ka Bagh, Lawrence Road, Sultanwind Road, Attari and Manawala.

He added that on March 4, the accused, while posing as a cop, had abducted the fiancée of Parveen Kumar, a Jalandhar resident, who had come to visit the city with his betrothed. "The accused had abducted and raped the woman. Later, he snatched her mobile phones, which have been recovered," the SHO said.
