The police said that the accused was unmarried and he murdered Baljinder Kaur (35) after he came to know that she had developed illicit relations with her brother-in-law (husband's brother) as well.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP), city-3, Paramjit Singh Pannu said the Dehlon police had registered the case on the complaint of Pyara Singh, the husband of the victim, on December 1. Pyara Singh had complained that his wife was missing since November 27.

The case was under investigation and on Saturday the police, after getting some clues, exhumed the body from the backyard of Kewal's house in presence of Sahnewal tehsildar. Kewal Singh confessed him crime during interrogation, the ADCP said.

According to the ADCP, the accused told police that he was having an illicit relationship with the woman for the last 10 years and he had spent a lot of money on her. “He discovered that the woman had developed physical relations with her husband's brother as well. On November 27, he called her to the backyard of his house and after exchanging some heated words, he strangulated and dumped the body under rice straw. When all the villagers went to watch a movie, Char Sahibzade, at Gurdwara Sahib of the village in the evening, he dug a pit and dumped the body,” added ADCP Paramjit Singh.
