A 27-year-old woman was killed by her husband at Tohra village of the district on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Saiyani Begum, who was married to the accused Suraj Khan two years ago.
Police said the matter came to light when the deceased’s neighbour Balvir Singh found Saiyani lying in a pool of blood at her house.
He reported the matter to the police, which found that both husband and wife had an altercation over some issue on Saturday morning, but the matter was resolved after intervention of villagers.
The police said the couple again had a heated argument, following which the accused allegedly attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon and slit her throat. He fled from the spot after committing the crime. The husband and wife were living in a rented accommodation in the village.
A case under section 302 (murder) of the IPC has been registered against the accused. The police are looking for him.
