A 35-year-old money changer allegedly shot dead his 26-year-old woman acquaintance in his shop in Dosarka on Thursday, before ending his life as well.

Sources said that Mandeep had gone to Pardeep's shop at around 2.30 pm. However, a little later, both were found dead. Neighbours did hear the shots, but mistook it for some other sound.

The bodies were recovered when a client visited the shop. Both had sustained bullet injuries in their heads. Police recovered two country-made pistols from the spot. A pack of celphos tablets was also recovered from the pocket of Pardeep, Hariana SHO Bikramjit Singh claimed.

Pardeep Kumar, a resident of Daulatpur Gillan, and Mandeep Kaur, alias Sonu, had been in touch for the past any years, the police said. Mandeep had returned from New Zealand after studying there for some time.

Mandeep's brother Sukhjinder alleged that Pardeep had been pressuring her sister to marry him. However, he could not explain the reason for Mandeep visiting Pardeep's shop. He claimed that she had gone to meet an astrologer in Hoshiarpur. On his statement that his sister had been killed by Pardeep, Hariana police registered a case against the latter. The bodies have been kept in the mortuary of Hoshiarpur civil hospital, where a post mortem would be conducted on Friday.
