Man who set self afire dies

Following heated arguments with his wife and father-in-law, a man had set himself on fire on August 15 and was admitted to the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, where he died on Sunday.

The victim has been identified as Ajay Kumar, 27, of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Dhandhra road. He worked was a delivery boy in a courier company.

The Sadar police registered a case of abetment to suicide against his wife Neha and father-in-law Ram Teerath, who are at large.

Earlier, the police had registered a case under section 309 (attempt to suicide) against Ajay.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Balbir Singh, in-charge at Marado police post, said Ajay married Neha on May 1, 2013. It was a love marriage, but the relations between husband and wife turned sour after a few months following which Neha had filed a complaint with the women cell of the police commissionerate. The couple had come to an accord on August 11 following which the case was disposed of.

In a fit of rage, Ajay poured kerosene and set himself on fire. Neighbours doused the fire and rushed him to the DMCH.

The ASI said the police would arrest the accused soon.
