Healthy relations between real brothers Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and Gurdas Badal seem to have become a cause of discomfort for Congress workers of the Lambi constituency.

One of the tallest Congress leaders of Lambi Maheshinder Singh Badal, also cousin of Parkash Singh Badal and Gurdas Badal, gave an opportunity to the Congress workers to vent their feelings on the decision of extending support to Manpreet Singh Badal in the backdrop of better relations of the Badal brothers .

Manpreet was called at the house of Maheshinder Singh Badal on Wednesday at Badal village and was made to respond to queries of Congress workers, who had come from different villages. Gurdas Badal was also present on the occasion.

Cong ress workers were allowed to vent their anger and Manpreet and his father listened to them calmly.

Congress workers also accused both of being part of their (Congressmen’s) alleged victimisation and torture in the hands of the police and Akali workers in the past.

Workers also pointed out that Gurdas Badal enjoyed healthy relations with the Punjab chief minister and both often expressed their love and affection publicly even after Manpreet formed PPP. Workers asked if there was any guarantee that both Badal brothers would not go politically together after polls were over.

Manpreet is all dependent on the support of Congress workers to cut the lead of Shiromani Akali Badal (SAD) as its candidate Harsimrat Kaur Badal is eyeing a big lead from this constituency from where Punjab CM won with more than 25,000 votes in 2012. Congress workers were quite vocal in expressing their anger against Manpreet and, hence, the open house decided that Youth Congress leader Randhir Singh Dheera would speak on behalf of all.

Talking to HT about the meeting, Dheera said, “Workers expressed their feelings and Manpreet was made aware of the atrocities committed on them while Manpreet was with SAD. Workers also wanted an assurance that Manpreet will not join hands with ruling Badal family in future.”

Manpreet was said to have delivered a very emotional and strong speech to win over the angry Congress workers and console their feelings. He also remained successful as they decided to support him in the end. “We have orders from the high command, so we will fully support Manpreet. Manpreet answered all grievances of Congress workers. Every effort will be made to make him victorious,” said Dheera.
